Refrigerated Containers - Reefer

Single Phase chillers

Our 20ft (6m) single-phase refrigerated containers operate as cool storage or chiller rooms and are fully lined with food-grade stainless steel. They achieve below-zero temperatures but are designed for chilling only — they are not suitable for freezing room-temperature products.

These chiller containers are ideal for food storage at zero degrees, making them perfect for:

Superettes and lunchbars
Takeaway outlets and bakeries
Restaurants and butchers
Green grocers and other food-related businesses

The refrigeration system is integrated into the back wall of the container, providing efficient cooling without taking up internal space.

Important requirements:

A reliable 240V x 16Amp exterior power socket is needed on-site
The client is responsible for providing the power supply, socket, and associated safety accessories (e.g., extension lead)

3 phase Freezers available

Our 20ft three-phase refrigerated container operates as a powerful freezer, capable of reaching temperatures as low as -20°C.

These “Cold Case” freezer reefers are ideal for food manufacturing businesses, restaurants, and supermarkets that require reliable deep-freeze storage.

Power Requirements:

3-phase, 440V x 32amp power supply
Suitable for pulling down product from room temperature to frozen
Client is responsible for power supply, socket, and safety accessories (including extension leads)

Energy Use:

On start-up, the container draws up to 4.5 kWh to reach the thermostat setting (typically takes around 1.5 hours)
Once at temperature, the system cycles as needed, using only a small amount of power to maintain consistent freezing conditions

Hardcase ‘Cold Case’ reefers are able to be transported throughout the North Island. We are based in West Auckland. We also have limited facility to store operating reefers at our depot in Henderson with client access Monday to Friday 7.30am to 5.00pm.

Freezer limitations

Chillers and freezers rely on recirculating air through the refrigeration system. If ventilation channels are blocked, cooling performance will be compromised, and products may spoil. Proper stacking and leaving sufficient air space are essential for optimal freezer and chiller performance.

CLIENT LOG BOOK

Clients are required to log internal temperature and coolant pressure twice daily. Each entry must include the temperature and pressure, along with the date, time, and inspector’s signature. Any readings outside the safe margin must be reported to us immediately. Responsibility for monitoring and maintaining safe conditions remains with the client.

BREAKDOWN SERVICE

All containers are electrically inspected before delivery to ensure they are fully operational. In the event of a breakdown or power outage, our refrigerated containers are supported by a 24/7 call-out repair service within metropolitan areas. Prompt action is critical, so please contact us immediately if issues arise.

Hardcase has available steel racking with steel mesh shelves that enable the frigid air to freeze or chill shelved product. Please see the images of our racking.

Interior Lighting

Some reefer containers have lighting, and some don’t. The 3phase reefer freezers have no lighting. Your lighting needs may be able to be personalised to your reefer under some conditions.

Required ventilation inside

Proper stacking and leaving sufficient air space between items are essential for optimal freezer and chiller performance. Chillers and freezers operate by continuously recirculating air through the refrigeration system. If ventilation channels are blocked, cooling performance will be reduced, and chilled or frozen products may spoil.

Transport destinations

All our reefer containers, whether chillers or freezers, can be transported anywhere across the North Island. Transport costs vary depending on location. Hardcase can also shift a loaded reefer to another destination.
